The future Centre for Mediterranean Culture and the Port of Arse-Saguntum, housed in the historic Grau Vell fortification on the banks of the Palancia river, is nearing completion and is set to open to the public. The site — largely unknown to most local residents — features historic cannons and is one of the few surviving remnants of Sagunto's early-modern maritime activity. Grau Vell (historic port area) served as the ancient harbour of Saguntum from at least the 5th century BC to the 6th century AD; it closed in 1907 when a new industrial port opened to the north (Wikipedia). Once open, the centre will offer the Camp de Morvedre district a new cultural landmark connecting the city's maritime heritage to its Mediterranean identity. According to elperiodic.com, renovation is in its final stretch.
