Percussionist Ferran Mechó returns to Faura with 'Ritual' show
In Faura, a village in the Camp de Morvedre district near Sagunto, local percussionist Ferran Mechó will perform this Saturday, 18 July, in 'Ritual', a free concert at Plaça de l'Hostal as part of the Cicle Vicent Garcés music series.
Faura-born musician Ferran Mechó will perform alongside Austrian percussionist Lorenz Gerl in "Ritual", a project by Pulse 6020 staged within the 18th Cicle de Música Valenciana i de Cambra "Vicent Garcés" (a Valencian chamber-music series). The free concert starts at 11pm and will move through different styles of contemporary percussion, with works by Emmanuel Séjourné, Tomer Yariv, Ivan Trevino and Astor Piazzolla.
Faura's mayor, Consol Duran, praised Mechó's international career, noting he began his musical training at the village's Joan Garcés Queralt music school. Both Mechó and Gerl studied at the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), the largest arts university in Switzerland, created in 2007 by merging the city's art-and-design school with its music, theatre and dance school. Today, both hold posts as principal percussionists with the Tyrol Symphony Orchestra in Innsbruck (Austria), founded in 1893 and linked since 2005 to the city's opera house.
Three of the four concerts in this year's cycle have featured local Faura artists. The series will close on 25 July with soprano Carmen Bosó. According to El Periódico de Aquí, with additional background from Wikipedia.
