Social Services greens the Voramar centre in Puerto de Sagunto
On Friday 15 May from 10 am, users of the SASEM mental-health programme, their families and neighbours will plant flowers in the gardens of the Voramar centre.
The community activity 'Ajardinar el cuidado' (gardening as care) is run by the Social Services Department and the council's public management company. The aim is to turn the stigma faced by people with serious mental-health problems into social acceptance through a shared task open to the whole community. Gardening staff from the public company provide the technical support, and anyone, including relatives and other residents, can join in. Councillor Nuria Carbó argues that caring for the surroundings and caring for people are actions that move forward together. The activity takes place in Puerto de Sagunto, one of the town's two main districts, and strengthens local social work in the neighbourhood. SASEM is a Social Services programme that supports the independence and inclusion of people with serious mental disorders through social and psychological support (aytosagunto.es).
