Puerto de Sagunto hosts the launch of a book on photojournalist Gerda Taro
Journalist Fernando Olmeda presents his book on war photojournalist Gerda Taro on Thursday 7 May at 7:00 pm at the Casal Jove in Puerto de Sagunto.
The book, 'Gerda Taro. Fotógrafa en la guerra de España' (Gerda Taro, photographer in the Spanish war), published by Libros del KO, recovers the figure of one of the great photo reporters of the 20th century. The launch at the Casal Jove brings to Puerto de Sagunto a cultural event tied to historical memory and war journalism, in a municipal venue regularly used for youth and cultural activities in the port district. The event fits the cultural programme the town keeps running steadily in both the historic centre and the port area. Gerda Taro (1910-1937), the stage name of Gerta Pohorylle, was the first woman recognised as a war photographer and died aged 26 during the Battle of Brunete in the Spanish Civil War; her work was for years credited to her partner, Robert Capa (Wikipedia).
